While other teams of the AFC East decided to boost their special teams by drafting kickers and punters, the Dolphins decided to continue their theme by adding physical ballers. Albeit at a surprising position.
Chris Grier decided they would be parting ways with Taybor Pepper, the current long snapper in South Beach, for National Champion Blake Ferguson.
Ferguson’s older brother is the long snapper for the Buffalo Bills, so the pedigree is there. Although this pick is not sexy, if the Dolphins felt that they could get a reliable player with reps in crucial moments and a strong ability to tackle in the punting game then this pick may not look so bad a few years down the line.
It would have been nice to pick up slot receiver K.J. Hill, but seeing the theme of the draft it is clear the team is looking to add character guys. Ferguson will compete for a starting job, but if his Twitter page has anything to say about it he will certainly be a favorite in the locker room very soon.
