Dolphins Trade for RB Matt Breida

With the plenty of speculation that Miami would draft a running back in this year’s Draft, and rumors running that the team had asked about former Rams’ RB Todd Gurley and current Jags’ RB Leonard Fournette, the team made a smart and value move.

During Saturday’s round 5, the Dolphins had back to back selections at picks 153 and 154. The team swapped 153 with the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for veteran ball carrier Matt Breida.

This is a great move for both teams. The 49ers did not need Breida as they have a bevy of rushers at their disposal in Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman, while the Dolphins were in need of a complementary piece to recently added Jordan Howard. This move was perfect. Although Breida does have a history of injury, he is a speedy runner who can hit the hole and burst to the second level with ease.

Over his three seasons in the NFL, Breida has been an efficient runner. He averages 5.0 yards per carry and has game breaking speed which will be exciting to see come football in the fall.
